Synthetic ice rinks consist of synthetic panels that have unique qualities as an “ice” skating surface. Their ultra-high resistance is achieved through the exclusive and meticulous selection of the raw material mixture, and the cold and hot pressing with specific temperature controls during each stage of the process.
Our synthetic ice surface is composed of several panels of high molecular density polyethylene, of various thicknesses depending on the application required by the customer. The panels are interconnected by H-shaped or dovetail parts which are very resistant and concealed within the joints connecting the panels. The product is highly resistant to degradation and UV rays while offering a considerable lifetime skating surface.
H-Lock – 5/8” (18mm)
The H-Lock system is most commonly used for commercial or outdoor projects. When the ice surface will be exposed to the elements or greater usage is expected, this system will be recommended. The interlocking panels will never shift or warp, as can be the case with the other systems on the market. Another benefit of the H-Lock system is that it is not required to be placed on a straight, flat surface. This is because the panels will lie smoothly across any surface.
One of the thickest products on the market today, the Synthetic Ice of Canada H-Lock system is sturdy and will last almost a lifetime. It usually sells for just a couple dollars more per square foot than the thickest dovetail system.
Dovetail – 1/2” (12.7 mm) or 3/8” (9.5mm)
Dovetail panels are recommended for private, residential, or indoor projects. They are easy to install: fit the pieces together as if they were a puzzle and lock them using a rubber hammer. The only requirement for this panel is that they be placed on a flat, hard surface. It is recommended to lay plastic underneath the panels, so that when the customer applies the silicone, it never reaches the flooring.
Usually, for residential areas, the thinnest panel (3/8”) is used. It is lightweight and easy to handle, ideal for families and young children. The thicker of the two (1/2”) is used in place of the thinner panel for commercial rentals or projects with heavier traffic. This is because there will be more wear and tear on the product.
All synthetic ice panels come with a manufacturer’s warranty of ten years, with some exclusions. Please contact us if you would like more information.
